A CONVERTER FOR THE THERMOOXIDATIVE CONVERSION OF FUEL MIXTURES

Processes must be conducted with homogeneous gas mixtures in order to bring about the fullest combustion of a hydrocarbon fuel (to the final product CO_2 and H_2O). If this condition is not met, there is a loss of heat, mainly that produced in the final oxidation of CO to CO_2, while the products from the incomplete combustion are of elevated toxicity. Many researchers have attempted to improve the conditions for the formation of a fuel-air mixture such as in the carburetor of an internal combustion engine (ICE). For example, Patent 1455028 A1 USSR proposed to evaporate and heat the liquid fuel to 200℃ by means of the heat from the exhaust gases. The droplets of sprayed hydrocarbon fuel react with the spent gases: C_nH_m + nCO_2 <-> 2nCO + 0.5mH_2 - q, where q is the heat consumed in reducing the hydrocarbon fuel by means of the spent gases in kJ/mol. The absorbed heat is converted into internal energy of the CO and H_2, whose heat of combustion is higher than that of the initial hydrocarbon fuel.
