On 2–4 December 2005, Wuhan University Law School, the Institute of International Law and the Innovation Base of International Law and New International Order co-sponsored in Wuhan University a symposium entitled “China's Peaceful Development and International Law”. This symposium had been planned as part of the activities under one of the Major Philosophical and Social Sciences Projects of Chinese Ministry of Education in 2004—“Research on Major Issues of International Law in Relation to China's Peaceful Development”, with Professor Zeng Lingliang from Wuhan University as its chief expert. More than 30 experts from China University of Foreign Trade and Economics, Guangxi Normal University, Hong Kong University, Hubei University, Foreign Affairs University, Shenzhen Institute of Administration, Suzhou University, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Zhongnan Normal University attended the symposium, submitting nearly 30 articles concerning frontline issues of international law that China is facing in the process of peaceful development, including collective security, anti-terrorism, non-traditional security, human rights, diplomatic law, law of the sea, national unity, intellectual property, financial law, investment law, environmental law, antitrust law, free trade, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and corporate social responsibility. A summary of the symposium follows.
