As part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations, CES will be featuring a few articles from the archives. The scans opposite were taken from the Institution's first journal, Forum Vol.1 Pt 2 31 May 1973. Back then, the Institution was known as the Association of Surveyors in Civil Engineering and the address from the founder president, Roderick David, to the first ever AGM, held at the Forum, Manchester, on 12 May 1973, appears to be somewhat familiar. In that address to the AGM, the president spoke about 'a gap in the industry which the Association can fill' and 'our ultimate aim of obtaining a charter'. The standpoint and credentials of the association at its creation are still true today, if not even more so, with the very reason for its formation still running strong through its core.
