The designers of the Asian Culture Complex, now under construction in Gwangju, South Korea, faced a daunting challenge: how do you design and construct a series of cultural and arts-oriented buildings of various sizes and styles for a new development of approximately 144,000 m~2 that will be located right up against and surround a historically important site with structures that must be preserved and cannot be overshadowed by the new project?
