The nation's transportation network has many users and uses, but moving freight is among its most economically critical functions. Seeking to ensure timely, cost-effective movement of freight in the future, a new congressional report examines the challenges facing the various modes involved in transporting freight and recommends ways that the federal government could improve freight transportation. Although it stops short of proposing particular sources of new funding for the various transportation modes, the report outlines steps that Congress could take to strengthen the nation s freight transportation network.
