This Book from Cambridge University Press excels in its accessibility, the clarity of its explanations, and its illuminating focus on the urban effects of climate change. This is particularly appropriate in that the first decade of this century was not only the hottest on record but also the one in which, for the first time in human history, the majority of the world's population lived in cities. Author Brian Stone, Jr., sets out to accomplish two primary goals. The first is to explain how the effects of global warming are amplified significantly in cities, the heat island effect being the best-known example.
