THE PERCENTAGE of local authority municipal waste that was reused, recycled or composted in Wales has decreased between 2016-17 and 2017-18, the latest figures show. The country's recycling rate has decreased from 63.8 percent to 62.7 percent. This decrease is partly due to an improvement in the quality of reporting, according to the Welsh Government. This includes improving the accuracy of wood end destination reporting, and a drop of Incinerator Bottom Ash (including metals) reported as recycled compared with 2016-17. 17 of the 22 local authorities reported a decrease in their reuse/ recycling/ composting rates compared to 2016-17. The total amount of local authority municipal waste collected decreased by 40,111 tonnes (2.5) and the amount of waste sent for recycling dropped 43,304 tonnes compared to 2016-17.
