On 12 June, the Directive (EU) 2019/904 of the European Parliament - and of the Council of 5 June - on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment was published in the Official Journal. It came into force on 3 July 2019. This so-called Single-Use Plastics (SuP) Directive has major implications for food and drink producers, packaging manufacturers, personal-care product producers, the tobacco industry, the investment community and the waste sector. As a directive, its requirements must be transposed into national law by member states within two years.
