EfW must be part of the solution when it comes to sustainability, so changing perceptions about the technology is imperative, says Jacob Hayler While we, in the industry, are aware of the importance of energy from waste (EfW) as an alternative to landfill for the treatment of our non-recyclable wastes, this is still not the case for some politicians and the public. A small, but vocal, anti-incineration sector serves to undermine positive images of our facilities and to maximise the difficulties faced by operators trying to develop new EfW plants.
