Ihave always looked upon zero waste to landfill as one of those laudable, ambitious targets that we need to drive us to improve our policies and practices... but the questions remain: is it actually achievable and if, as some would suggest, it isn't, then should that be a barrier to setting it as a target? I have been plotting corporate social responsibility, environment or sustainability statements for some time, and a recent review of over 40 of the major manufacturers and retailers in the UK provided some interesting results. These corporate statements are becoming more sophisticated and many have moved on significantly from the early days of broad recycling targets and diversion from landfill.
