In the current climate, the resources and waste sector is a very exciting place to work. There is huge public interest in what we do, which is feeding strong political momentum to put in place policies that will drive recycling and transform our industry. With extra public interest, rightly, comes additional scrutiny. Sadly, there is still too much poor practice in our sector as, sometimes, unscrupulous operators cut corners while aiming to maximise tonnage at minimum cost. Often, this strays into outright illegality, with two million tonnes of household and commercial waste leaking into the hands of criminals every year.
