2016 HAS the potential to be a pivotal one for our industry. The Dutch Presidency of the EU seems determined to put the Circular Economy Package high on its agenda with a stated desire for Environment Ministers to finalise their position on the package by 20 June - just in time for the end of its term. There is no doubt forthcoming months will see intense discussions on the package as stakeholders fully digest its implications and begin to develop their own proposals for reform. While the European Commission's Circular Economy Package is driving forward debate in Europe, domestically there appears to be an ongoing vacuum in policy (in Westminster at least). The UK Government seems to have neither the inclination nor the resources to set a strategy for our sector, while the Opposition is also yet to firm up a detailed vision. While this is disappointing at first sight, it does at least provide us with an opportunity to shape those views arid help politicians on all sides realise the potential that a circular economy could bring for the whole of the UK.
