Welsh councils have reduced their spend on sending waste to landfill by more than 23 percent in the last four years, according to figures obtained by BBC Wales. The figure for the overall weight of residual waste sent to landfill has decreased from 641,000 tonnes in 2012/13 to 450,000 tonnes in 2014/15, representing a 30 percent drop in the last three years. The annual cost on landfill has fallen from more than £62.5m to £47.7m. National Resources Minister, Carl Sargeant, said: "As the only UK nation to set statutory recycling targets our approach is clearly paying dividends."
