I recently engaged in a modicum of research on the subject of the "throwaway society" and found that it was first coined in the year I was born, and as you can imagine, we have both changed in the intervening sixty years. In my case, the changes have been mainly in appearance and attitude. In the early days, the throwaway society was focussed on packaging and consumables and while we haven't quite cracked both of these, the term has been used more recently about food waste. There are some similarities in that we both face accusations of excess packaging!
