Williams Transport has recently taken delivery of 10 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 tractor units, following the impressive fuel economy figures of a seed vehicle "planted" by local dealer Intercounty Truck & Van. "That first truck delivered an average of 8.25mpg,"said company director Andy Williams. "That might not sound like a lot, but on our job, that's very good indeed. It was a full mile per gallon better than the truck it replaced." All the new Euro-6 Actros tractor units feature flat-floored "Big Space" cabs and are powered by the 449hp straight six diesel driving through the"Powershift-3" automated transmission - a feature well-liked by the drivers. "Our drivers are typically out for four or five nights a week, so we do like to give them comfortable, high quality vehicles," Andy explains. The new Actros units were purchased to haul walking floor trailers. They join a fleet of over 60 trucks working throughout London and the south east.
