Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy is this year celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. For 60 years now, we have been fighting the good fight to rid our beautiful country of the blight of litter. Some may say we have had limited success. After all, there is still litter on our streets, in our parks and on our beaches. However, when those amazing women from the Women's Institute decided 60 years ago that "something must be done" about the litter that they were beginning to see, little could they have known that 60 years later there would have been a seismic shift in our society. They could not have predicted a society where we all eat and drink on the go; where the consumption of confectionery, fizzy drinks and bottled water while running from "A" to "B" would be the norm; and where smoking inside offices and public places would be against the law.
