One thousand tonnes of general and building waste caught alight at Averies Recycling Centre in Marshgate in Swindon during a staged two-hour walk out by the Fire Brigades Union over pay and pensions. At the height of the blaze, six fire engines, two water carriers, an operational support unit and an incident command vehicle were in attendance at the scene. The crews on strike left to help tackle the blaze.
