Pre-packaged foods like ham or cheese need to be eaten within a certain number of days of being opened - even if they are still within the use-by date. The Novas Embedded Label is integrated into the food packaging film. When the package is opened the colour-changing label is triggered due to the exposure to carbon dioxide. The timer is activated upon opening and shows the consumer what stage their food is at - either "just opened", "use soon" or "past best".
