Back in the 1960s, Corby played a key role in ensuring Great Britain was at the centre of the Labour government's "White Heat of Technology" vision. Sadly, as we now know, that phrase turned out to be just somuch hot air-a final throw of the dice as the dying embers of Empire failed to evolve into a new Commonwealth market where Britain supplied the design expertise and manufactured end-products and the former colonies provided the raw materials and the potential market. Unfortunately, it just didn't work.
