The european Commissioner for Environment Janez Potocnik (pictured) spoke at the international Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products where he used the waste sector as an example of how the green economy can boost growth and jobs. He said: "The waste sector alone grew more than 20 percent between 2000 and 2008. Similarly, jobs in recycling grew by almost 80 percent. It is estimated that full implementation of EU waste legislation would increase the annual turnover of the EU waste management and recycling sector by €42bn and create over 400 000 jobs by 2020."
