摘要

Re-use and Recycling Centres (RRCs) play an important role in sustainable waste management by providing drop off facilities for a range of materials for reuse, recycling and disposal. Earlier this year, Waste Watch delivered two different engagement programmes for residents and staff at RRCs on behalf of Bridgend County Borough Council in Wales and the London Borough of Bexley. Both local authorities have a comprehensive kerbside recycling system in place including food waste collections, and have introduced fortnightly collections of residual waste in recent years, which has led to high recycling rates - 48 percent and 50.97 percent in 2010/11 for Bridgend and Bexley respectively. However, both local authorities had recognised that high amounts of "black bag" waste at their RRCs was hampering higher recycling performance, and were keen to try and tackle this issue through actively engaging with residents using the sites to encourage greater recycling.
