I've never met a poor dentist, or one who says: "I miss the old days - when we pulled rotten teeth from folk who were desperate to get rid of them". I've not heard them fretting about moving from extraction to filling, or from filling to protecting - and now to preventing disease itself. They moved on. They added value. Their customers benefitted. They prospered. Resources are a bit like teeth. It's often comforting not to have to think about them at all - but once you junk them, they're gone for good. They don't come back. CIWM's vision is simple: "A world where resources are kept working, where wastes are put back to work, and real residues are safely disposed of. The days of "pick it up cheap, carry it cheap, bury it cheap" went out years back. We're riding the recycling wave - putting waste back to work, or recovering value from it. Now we need to recognise that many of our customers' needs are changing; they want something more.
