摘要

Now I don't want to sound down on the Olympics, but... I'm quite happy to go on record as being unenthusiastic about such a vast waste of money and resources at a time of national austerity and public sector job loss. The very idea that us peasants will, in some way, feel "more fulfilled" as a result of some athlete from another country winning medals at our expense doesn't do it for me. Did we have an opportunity to vote on whether the UK should host the Olympics? Nope. Still, there's no point me doing a Victor Meldrew now, is it? [Blimey, that's never stopped him before - Ed] But aside from the cost to London rate payers and the money handed out from the Lottery Fund, it might come as a shock to learn that the 2012 Olympics has even had an affect on council waste collection and disposal policy down in Dorset. How come? Well, Weymouth Bay is famous for being the perfect place for messing around in boats apparently (you're right, I'm as enthusiastic about sailing as I am about hurling a javelin, which is not very!).
