In June 2010 national strategic waste plans were published for Scotland and Wales. Scotland's Zero Waste Plan and Towards Zero Waste (Wales) are intended to steer resource management in order to secure reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with climate legislation (amongst other drivers) and to implement the provisions necessary to comply with the revised EU Waste Framework Directive, required by 12 December 2010.rnScotland's plan sets out key actions and new targets to deal with the reduction, management and treatment of waste and covers all waste, including commercial and industrial. The Welsh plan aims to identify challenges arising from sustainability, security of resources, climate change and ecological footprinting: the impact of consumption against resource. Both plans have far-reaching implications across all sectors such as food, retail, waste management, energy, clean tech, procurement, construction and design. Both are intended to fit together with other strategies for establishing a low carbon economy.
