The brew Centre for Local Authorities, funded by Defra, has announced extra funding for councils that want to become a "zero waste place" under the initiative launched last year.rnThe funding will allow support for a further eight zero waste place projects with grants of up to £10000. Those awarded funding in 2008 include a 100-house street, a suburban estate, a street market and a city centre square, and Defra is now seeking more initiatives that will further seek to "kickstart a significant attack on waste, with a particular emphasis on waste prevention" and to "work in partnership with the private and third sectors." Project applications must be submitted to the BREW Centre by 1 October.
