The latest figures to come out of Scotland show that it is producing less municipal waste than in previous years and recycling more of the municipal waste it does produce.rnThe Scottish Environment Protection Agency's figures show a recycling and composting rate of 34.3 percent (April 2008 to March 2009), while 3.29m tonnes of municipal solid waste was produced in 2008/09 - a decrease of 120000 tonnes from the previous year.rnRichard Lochhead, Environment Minister for Scotland, said: "We are making progress but we must go further in relation to all types of waste. We need to reach 40 percent by the end of 2010. The bar is set and we must work together to reach our goal of a Zero Waste Scotland."
