In the month of November 2006,just five months after rolling out its new three-bin kerbside collection scheme,Uttlesford District Council had achieved a 53.5 percent recycling rate,more than double the 24.7 percent figureit was achieving just one year earlier.The figures have not been audited,it must be stressed,but the numbers speak for themselves and there is little doubt that the Council's collection policy of a separate weekly collection of food waste,along with an alternate weekly collection (AWC) of dry recyclables and residual waste,agreed at a full council meeting at the tail-end of 2005,has paid off handsomely.
