For the first time global restaurant chain McDonalds is converting waste generated at its UK restaurants into energy under a pilot scheme launched last month in South Yorkshire.Up to 100 tonnes of waste per year from each of its 11 restaurants in the area will be treated at Veolia's energy recovery facility in Sheffield, generating electricity and heating for 130 buildings, including Sheffield's Weston Park Hospital, the Lyceum Theatre and Sheffield City Hall.
