The Smith Anderson plant in Fife is processing up to 100 tonnes - approximately 3.6 million cartons - a week, according to the Liquid Food Carton Manufacturing Association (LFCMA). This is having some effect on lifting the UK's low level of food carton recycling, currently running at less than 10 percent. By comparison Germany is at 65 percent and most EU member states are at or above the 50 percent rate. Beverage cartons are totally recyclable and the only drinks packaging available in the UK made principally from a reewable source.
