The British Cleaning Council (BCC) is a conglomerate of 16 trade associations, and was founded in 1982. Its main remit is providing training for its membership, and publicising the work of those in the industry. Paul Pearce is himself a specialist carpet cleaner, having gone into the business some 30 years ago. At 18, Pearce decided to become a carpet cleaner, and says that this is "where my heart really lies". "I learnt the hard way, I liked the company so much I bought it about seven years later," he says. "I grew the business and then sold it 14 years ago." He now works as a soft furnishings consultant, and runs training courses over and above the day-to-day running of his current business.
