It is well known that rock salt is one of the most cost-effective, readily available and efficient materials when it comes to the prevention and removal of snow and ice on our roads. But it is also recognised that, along with other chloride-based chemicals, rock salt can cause corrosion of metals, leading to long-term infrastructure deterioration. Countries, such as the US, that have more severe winters than the UK have been much faster to look at products that can help reduce this corrosive effect. Agricultural byproducts (ABPs) are one example, having been used for over 10 years by the winter maintenance industry in the sold per year.
