Barry Sheerman has been an MP since 1979, and has a number of special interests which keep him more than busy. As part of the Education Select Committee, the Committee on the Introduction to the Euro, alongside his activities on waste, Sheerman is certainly a busy man. Sheerman has always been interested in the environment, and has a practical bent, he explains, which means he is keen to make a tangible difference. "I think that if you can, at the same time, improve the environment and create employment, that's a pretty good thing to do," he says. He is a self-declared "vision person," who enjoys getting the team together and then starting to deliver on the objectives. "I have to have a passion for something," he says. "I have to build partnerships because I always believe they are very important to make things happen.
