As the year draws to a close, both the coking and thermal coal markets are looking fairly healthy with prices gradually increasing over the past few months. Currently the Newcastle globalCoal price for thermal coal is just above $80.00/tonne FOBT and the Richards Bay price is just over $70.00/ tonne FOBT, well up from their lows back in March.rnThe direction for prices in 2010 is not yet clear and there are some conflicting views on how strong the recovery from the global financial crisis will be. The major factor is unanimously seen as China's demand for imported coal.
