摘要

The present investigation is an effort to revive the traditional art of natural dyeing. The natural dye was extracted from barks of Quercus glacua belongs to Fagaceae family and commonly known as phaniyat tree. The extracted dye was applied on silk fabric along with natural and metallic mordants using post mordanting method. Colour fastness of fabric is very important aspect as the end use of fabrics depends on this property. So colour fastness properties of silk fabric dyed with Quercus glacua bark dye was tested and the results revealed that the dyed samples have shown good fastness properties against light, washing, crocking and perspiration. The dye has good scope in the commercial dyeing of silk in garments industry. Nomenclature of colors was done by matching with closely related shades of Royal Horticulture Society color chart.
