摘要

Cold plasma composed from air can be safely used for the surface modification of textile substrate. The chemical surface composition and morphology are highly related to the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity, and are responsible to achieve better coating adhesion and dyeability of material. Plasma treatment can change surface hydrophilicity of the textile substrate by forming hydrophilic groups or can clean the surface by etching out top layers and the treated material can be utilized for the improvement of the durability of post treatment like improvement of adhesion of coating and the durability of finishes like water repellent and anti-microbial etc. The present study has been undertaken to study the chemical changes taking place at surface and study its effect on physical properties with focusing on hydrophilicity of the textile substrate. Also the effect of corona discharge / air treatment on the surface of polymer based fabrics will studied. The corona concerned has been characterized in terms of the energy deposited by the discharge at the processing electrodes and the resultant modification of the surface properties of the treated samples will be investigated by using IR Spectroscopy, X-ray spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, contact angle / wickability measurement and dyeing behaviour.
