The Government of Bangladesh has taken steps for resumption of construction work by next month for the upcoming 'garment village' in Munshiganj, according to a Financial Express report. The Government envisages relocation of about 1,000 apparel units to the garment village by January 2014. In the wake of the recent Tazreen Fashions fire incident, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her desire to see all garment units in the county to be fully compliant with safety standards. Hence, the Prime Minister has also directed setting up of garment villages in Savar, Chittagong and Gazipur in phases, in addition to the one being set up at Munshiganj.
