SURAT's textile industry is going through a dark phase this Diwali, with demand having gone down during the 'peak' season. Traders and factory owners admitted that this festive season, demand for printed fabrics had gone down. Powerloom units in the city are working on just one shift. Many unit owners are contemplating further reduction of working time. Several workers have also advanced their Diwali vacations. Godowns are choc-a-bloc with grey bales, which are in demand this time of the year.
