The process of desizing is mainly responsible for the removal of the added sizing materials, the so called added impurities. Since it leads to degradation of starch, the BOD and the dissolved solids generated from the desizing process are of very high order as compared to other wet processes. As mentioned earlier, substitution of starch by synthetic sizes and/or recycling of such sizes can reduce the pollution load considerably.
