The physicist and Nobel prize laureate Richard Feynman made his visionary speech on the occasion of Cal Tech on December 29, 1959 by saying "There is plenty of room at the bottom" (e.g. www.zyvex.comanaotech/ feynman.html) and by doing so he already presaged the conquest of nanocosmos for technical application. He recognized that the smallness of objects would make new functionalities possible. In a speech held before the "American Physical Society" he asked himself if it wasn't possible to write the entire "Encyclopedia Brittanica" onto a pinhead. And after a few calculations, Feynman even made a case that theoretically the entire world literature could be saved on a three-dimensional piece of matter being as small as dust particle. He summarized his thoughts in one sentence: "There is plenty of room at the bottom". With this speech, the Nobel prize laureate Feynman became the first nanotechnology visionary (www.nanaotruck.de).
