A National Symposium on Environ-mental Friendly Textile Processing - NSEFTP 2004 was organised on 19th and 20th of February for the first time at Poondi, Thanjavur. Held for the first time in this part of the country, the south Indian granary and the capital of the Chola Kings, this two day event was organised by the Department of industrial chemistry, AVVM Sri Pushpam College, Poondi and COLOURAGE/ TAMIZHAHA Textiles. This event was sponsored by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and Tamilnadu state council of science and technology, Chennai. Starting off with an invocation to the Gods, Mr. K. Thulasiah Vandayar, Secretary and Correspondent of the college lit the kuthuvilakku (traditional lamp) to flag off the inaugural session of this grand event. Mr. M. Mathiyazhagan, managing director, Universal Dyeing, Tirupur was the chief guest on the occasion.
