Parts Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, Ⅵ, Ⅶ, Ⅷ, Ⅸ and Ⅹ in this series on ITMA '99 Paris, published in the previous ten issues of COLOURAGE, have dealt with machines for preparatory processing & bleaching, batch wise dyeing, continuous dyeing, printing, finishing stenters, shrinking machines, relaxation shrinking machines & decatising machines, shearing machines & singeing machines, raising machines & brushing machines and emerizing machines for wo ven fabrics. Part Ⅺ deals with coating machines that formed the largest in number among the surface finishing machines shown at ITMA '99, thereby proving the growing importance of this technology. Coating machines are now churning out a variety of useful apparel, medical and industrial products. The new machines showed improvements in application accuracy, economy and increasing plant flexibility. Machines are also adaptable to the production of a variety of products from artificial leather and coated fabrics to interlinings and breathable functional fabrics. A wide spectrum of machines having different and some with new technologies such as 'Magnoroll', 'Uniroll', 'Porous Coat~®', 'Precoat', 'Cavidot', 'Doubledot' and 'CFS' are presented, each for a specific application and with benefits. Machines can now perform, in single pass, 3-stage dip coating in 2-sided application. Many of the latest machines are compact, clean and elegant looking with high levels of automation, controls, memory and precision. There are contact and contactless machine application technologies to produce breathable products to give more comfort and cleanliness to the user. A ttention has been given both to economy in chemicals, water and energy and to ecology. Most of the leading manufacturers of coating machines have got their own laboratory and sampling machines like 'Deskcoater' of Coatema, 'Magnoroll' and 'Variopress' of Zimmer and 'CFU of Stork for testing, development and customer service through samples. Although the processes and equipment for coating, combining and laminating textile fabrics are closely related, the matter being a vast one, cannot be covered in one installment. Coating process is described in detail in this one despite the fact that there is some spilling here and there of the other processes. Machinery for combining and laminating will be taken up in the next part of this series on calendering and laminating machines in the next issue of COLOURAGE.
