摘要

MEMBERS attending the CCS 19th Annual Economic Crime Lecture in London last month gained broad insight into navigating the often challenging and sometimes treacherous waters of international sanctions and the impact of a breach – sometimes through no fault of their own - upon their businesses. Main speaker, David McLean, Head of Financial Sanctions Enforcement from OFSI (the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation which is part of HM Treasury in the UK), stressed that if members think that they or their clients have potentially breached sanctions, they should report it to OFSI. “You have an obligation to report a potential breach to OFSI because it may be an offence if you don’t. There are benefits in reporting it…even if you end up getting a penalty, you could find yourself in a more beneficial position than if don’t report it. You should report it at the earliest possible opportunity,” he said.
