It is with great sadness that we inform our readers, authors and reviewers that Prof. Ian Marshall passed away on 20 November 2008. On behalf of Elsevier, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family and all his friends in the community. Ian was the founding editor of this journal (started in 1983) and has steered it successfully through its 25 years of existence. The journal's impact factor has been growing steadily in recent years: the latest (2007) impact factor is 1.116, placing Composite Structures as the No. 4 journal (in terms of impact factor) in the subject category Materials: Composites.
