In the March issue I answered a problem from Michael Cooke who has an Access database that includes the following four fields: Surname, Forename, Nickname, Birthday. He wanted to produce an answer table that contained conditional data. In other words, it would show the person's nickname if one exists for a particular record, otherwise it would show their forename. I solved this by creating a user-defined module because: 'SQL doesn't allow you to do this. As far as I am aware you can't directly embed a conditional statement like this into a standard SQL query.'
