We had hoped that after several series of Dom Joly's Trigger Happy TV, everyday folk would have known to change their ring tone from the Nokia Tune setting. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have happened and any journey on public transport still seems to be punctuated by the sound of Nokia's version of Chinese water torture. When it comes to ring tones, we reckon an old-fashioned ring does the job quite well, but obviously not everyone thinks so. In fact mobile phone manufacturers believe that the public love quirky tones so much that practically every phone now hitting the stores has the ability to play polyphonic tones. So, after resisting the musical charms of our beeping buddies for so long, we now have to admit that the sonic potential of some of the higher-end models is quite impressive.
