摘要

The goal of this textbook is to present the theory of formal languages and automata theory in a range broader than that of standard textbooks for students of computer science. I agree with this view and can say that the goal is satisfied. Moreover this book is well written and it often inspires the reader to ponder the presented topics. If I taught an advanced course of formal languages and automata theory I would use this textbook (with minor changes formulated above). This textbook can serve well for self-study, and I believe that a student may truly profit from it.
