Innovation is good for the balance of trade, for our international reputation. Especially in a challenging economic climate, information technology is key to competitive advantage. Of course we believe those things. We wouldn't be in the industry if we didn't. On the political front, though, it seems IT is getting short shrift. An articulate policy regarding support for and development of IT and the industry was on no one's lips in the last federal election campaign. IT has not been specifically mentioned in a federal throne speech since 2001.
