摘要

CONTAINERISED imports into Brazil and Mexico surged in the first quarter of the year amid World Cup fever in Latin America, but concerns linger over whether the pair will be nursing a trade hangover after the footballing festivities in Russia. According to a regional trade outlook published by the world's largest ocean carrier Maersk Line, Latin America's biggest box traders reported a surge in inbound trade in the January-March period buoyed by electronic goods and World Cup memorabilia in preparation for the summer tournament. Brazilian imports jumped 19% in the first quarter against the corresponding months of last year, while Mexican imports increased 8% on 2017 levels. The biggest benefactor in Brazil was in the north of the country, where imports were reportedly up nearly 60% on the past year in the opening quarter of 2018.
