摘要

The Tenth International Conference on the Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming (CP 2003) was held in Toronto, Canada, from September 27-October 1st 2004. From the 158 submissions to the conference, we selected five papers to be expanded into journal form, and submitted to this special issue. There is a common theme of algorithms underlying all the papers. Algorithms lie at the heart of Constraints, and this issue provides a full cross-section of the work on algorithms being undertaken in the constraints community. The papers reveal how research on algorithms has progressed in many new directions since it has been tackled from the viewpoint of constraints. The papers here deal with algorithm behaviour, languages for implementing algorithms, automatic generation of algorithms, new ways of combining algorithms, and data structures for better algorithms.
