The premise for this book is that, 'sustainable, cyclic businesses are more logical and more preferable' and that to achieve a sustainable business requires changes in organizations. For these changes to happen new thinking and behaviours are needed. Bossink argues that 'sustainability is an organizational innovation that "needs to be managed'" and therefore seeks to provide 'a management concept for sustainable innovation strategies in commercial and government organizations' (p. 1). The aim of this book is, therefore, 'to help researchers and practitioners who want to understand and be prepared for future development and action in this field' (p. 1). Bossink presents an overall management perspective. He does not attempt to embrace the wide range of scientific or technical approaches to the design and management of a sustainable built environment (Yao, 2013). For example, he does not demonstrate how to develop a business case for sustainability, or engage in debate on how to monitor and report on sustainability on projects (McCarty et at, 2011). However, he does deal with the type of leadership required, how to build sustainable innovation teams and the attributes of sustainable innovation champions. An overview is provided on the drivers of sustainable innovation and information is given on how governments seek to encourage sustainability through changes in policy.
